Who Should Schedule a Gynecological Exam?
Gynecological exams are recommended annually for all women — and sooner if you're experiencing symptoms. You don't need to have a specific concern to come in. Preventative care is the whole point.
Schedule a gynecological exam if you:
Are due for your annual pap smear or pelvic exam
Are experiencing irregular periods, heavy bleeding, or spotting
Have abnormal discharge or symptoms of a possible infection
Want STI screening — with or without symptoms
Are experiencing symptoms that could indicate PCOS, PMOS, or endometriosis
Are starting a new form of birth control or want to explore your options
*Pap smear frequency guidelines vary by age and history. Your provider will advise you on the right schedule for your situation.
Process Overview
What to Expect at Your Gynecological Exam
1. Health History & Conversation
We start with a conversation — your cycle, any symptoms, your birth control history, and any concerns on your mind. Nothing is too small to mention.
2. Physical Examination
Your provider will conduct a pelvic exam and pap smear as indicated. We walk you through each step and check in throughout to make sure you're comfortable.
3. Screenings & Lab Work
STI screenings and any indicated lab work are ordered and processed. Results are typically returned within a few days and reviewed with you.
4. Plan & Next Steps
Based on your exam and results, your provider will share findings, address any concerns, and discuss next steps — whether that's a treatment plan, a referral, or simply a follow-up schedule.
